Frequently Asked Questions
Will my pet need to be shaved for the exam? Why?
Shaving the area to be examined is necessary and will help speed up the procedure.
Do I need special instructions for appointments for abdominal ultrasound?
Yes. You should receive complete instructions from your veterinarian, verbally or in writing, prior to the appointment and upon the release of your pet from the hospital.
Do I need special instruction if my pet has diabetes or other medical conditions?
Yes. Please call your veterinarian for instructions.
Who do I talk to if I have questions before or after the exam?
If you have any questions about the procedure you should talk to your veterinarian. If there are questions specifically about the technical aspects of the procedure that your veterinarian cannot answer, we will be happy to answer those questions for you — 520-471-1618
What are your hours?
Routine ultrasound exams are performed Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm. Emergency ultrasound is available outside of these hours.
What are the fees?
You should receive an estimate for the procedure from your veterinarian before the procedure is done. The cost varies for a number of reasons:
- fee structures vary from hospital/clinic to hospital/clinic
- the specific services your pet needs
- the length of stay
- other medical concerns, such as appropriate tests or medication
Will I have to make a separate payment to PetSounds?
No. Our fees will be included on the bill you receive from your veterinarian. Our fees are paid to us by the clinic or hospital you use. The fee your veterinarian charges for the ultrasound exam may be different than the fee we charge the clinic or hospital due to how each hospital/clinic handles their fee structure.
Will my pet need anesthesia?
Most ultrasounds are done without the need for sedation or anesthesia. Exceptions are pets that are highly stressed or those that require a biopsy. Your veterinarian can help you decide this based on your pet's needs.
How do I schedule an appointment?
PetSounds comes to your veterinarian's office to perform ultrasound exams. Your veterinarian can call us to schedule an appointment for your pet.
